Sens blank Habs in key divisional battle

MONTREAL - Jason Spezza scored his 29th and 30th goals of the season as the Ottawa Senators knocked the Montreal Canadiens out of first place in the NHL Northeast Division with a 3-0 victory on Thursday night.

Martin Gerber, making his seventh straight start, made 28 saves for his second shutout of the season and ninth of his career.

Antoine Vermette also scored for the Senators (40-25-7), who won a third game in row.

Ottawa now has 87 points, tied with Montreal (39-24-9), but have one more win than the Canadiens. The Senators are 5-1-0 against Montreal this season.
